The world’s largest manufacturer of printing inks and pigments

Following a competitive tendering process, Sun Chemical selected Ai Process Systems Ltd to work in combination with Sun Chemical’s experienced Operations team to design, install and commission their new manufacturing plant for coldset inks in Slough. The choice of Ai was on the basis of their process engineering expertise.

The design challenge
To provide state-of-the-art process ow techniques throughout the new manufacturing unit, the Ai team developed an innovative design that fully met the speci c needs of Sun Chemical. Fitting the design into a restricted space and working to a de ned budget and tight timescales were all challenges that the experienced Ai project team was able to meet.

Led by Contracts Manager, Trevor Wignall, the Ai team was responsible for:

• The supply and installation of bulk powder silos, prime processing mixing vessels and associated milling equipment.
• New and existing raw material storage and transfer equipment.
• New and relocated manufacturing mixers.
• Numerous 30,000 litre post manufacture storage vessels to suit the various colour streams of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow prior to transfer to road tankers for delivery to printing rms and major newspapers.
• Bespoke recipe driven process control system.
• All associated site services and utilities including prefabricated pipe work.

 

Putting design into practice

The Sun Chemical project, which started in the autumn of 2007, was completed in the autumn of 2008. The Ai team has deployed their excellent coordination and project management skills to ensure a seamless transfer from the old site to the new manufacturing site in Slough.

 

Experienced and e ective project managers with high level communications skills, Ai is the company of choice for clients requiring e ective liaison with architects, builders and suppliers. Ai is also very good at understanding clients’ needs and communicating these requirements to other contractors involved in projects. Crucially Ai has a deserved reputation for working within con dentiality agreements
