Ai Process Designs & Delivers Turnkey Digital Ink Manufacturing Facility Relocation & Upgrade for Fujifilm UK
Client:
Fujifilm
Industry:
Paints, inks & coatings
Project Site:
Kent, UK
Objective:
Relocate and modernise a digital ink manufacturing facility with new process equipment and infrastructure.
Fujifilm is a globally recognised technology company with a long-standing reputation for innovation across imaging, healthcare, advanced materials and industrial applications. Founded in Japan, the Fujifilm Group operates across numerous international markets, combining advanced technology, research and development with high-performance manufacturing capabilities. Its industrial printing technologies include digital ink solutions developed for demanding commercial and industrial applications, where precision, consistency and reliability are essential. Fujifilm’s commitment to innovation and technical excellence extends across its manufacturing operations. Against this background, Ai Process was appointed to support the relocation and development of Fujifilm’s Digital Ink manufacturing facility.
Ai Process Scope of Works
Ai Process acted as the EPCM contractor, delivering a complete turnkey solution for the relocation and modernisation of the Digital Ink manufacturing facility. The project scope included:
- Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed process engineering and full industrial design service
- Relocation and refurbishment of existing production equipment alongside installation of four new 4,000-litre High Speed Disperser mixing systems
- Design and installation of process pipework, utilities, chilled water, compressed air, dust and fume extraction systems
- PLC process control, instrumentation, motor control centres and electrical installation, including ATEX hazardous area equipment where required
- Mechanical installation, structural steelwork, mezzanines, laboratory and production facility modifications
- Procurement, construction, commissioning, testing and operator training delivered through Ai Process’ integrated engineering procurement construction and installation contractor approach
Outcome & Benefits
Optimised Process Design & Operational Efficiency
Ai Process optimised the production layout and process infrastructure to improve process flow and manufacturing efficiency. The integration of new high-speed dispersers, automated weighing, process control and supporting utilities created a more efficient production environment, helping Fujifilm optimise resource use and establish a more sustainable platform for future manufacturing requirements.
Enhanced Safety in an ATEX Environment
The use of low flash-point raw materials required careful consideration of hazardous area risks. Ai Process incorporated ATEX-rated dust and fume extraction, hazardous area controls, ventilation and associated safety systems, creating a safer production environment and helping Fujifilm manage the risks associated with flammable materials and hazardous area operations.
Increased Capacity, Flexibility & Futureproofing
The installation of four new 4,000-litre high-speed dispersers increased Fujifilm’s production capability while providing greater flexibility within the manufacturing process. Integrating new equipment with relocated existing assets created a more adaptable production facility, providing additional capacity and a stronger platform to accommodate future production requirements and new product demands.
Trusted Partner for Complex Industrial Projects
Ai Process provided Fujifilm with a trusted EPCM partner to navigate the complex engineering, safety and industrial regulatory requirements associated with a major manufacturing facility relocation. From detailed design and procurement through to installation, commissioning and operator training, Ai Process coordinated multiple disciplines to reduce project complexity and delivery risk.
